About RCP

RCP is a vibrant community of 2,000+ migrant and refugee North Carolinians working to build a Safer South for all of us. Our community-designed and led programs make public information accessible in 7+ languages and connect local residents to housing, healthcare, employment opportunities, social & emotional healing and more. We do this by nurturing a broad network of mutual aid rooted in solidarity, and by investing in migrant and refugee leaders.

Tax Code Updates for Donors

New 2026 charitable tax law changes may affect your giving this year. Here’s what you need to know!

  • New Deduction for Non-Itemizers: If you take the standard deduction (as roughly 90% of taxpayers do), you can receive an “above-the-line” tax benefit for charitable giving. This change allows you to deduct up to $1,000 for individuals or $2,000 for married couples filing jointly for cash gifts made directly to qualified public charities.
  • Strategies for Itemizers: If you itemize deductions, charitable contributions are now deductible only to the extent they exceed 0.5% of Adjusted Gross Income (AGI). To help clear this new floor, you might consider:
  • Bunching Contributions: Combining multiple years of giving into a single tax year. You can bunch directly with RCP or through a Donor Advised Fund.
  • Donating Stocks and Appreciated Assets: Gifting appreciated assets like stocks or mutual funds allows you to avoid capital gains tax, allows a deduction for the full fair market value, and can help clear the AGI floor.

Many companies offer matches for donations made by employees. Search for your employer by clicking below!

As with every aspect of our work, trust in community and in each other is a fundamental building block for grassroots fundraising. That’s why we work hard to receive the highest grades available for accountability and transparency.
